An interesting effort from Smartz. “The Whole World” is notable for a number of reasons and, as the MC doesn’t seem to get the recognition that other contemporaries have thus far received, this is something of a coming-out party for him. His lyrics are genuinely excellent and, unlike the overwhelming majority of his peers, he has flow. He’s locked on to the beat, playfully aggressive, toying with his delivery, yet conveying emotion at the same time. He’s actually really pretty damn good on this. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for the beat, which is a complete letdown (you hope that Smartz chooses instrumentals with a touch more care next time). Gappy Ranks’ chorus is solid enough and, aside from the beat, “The Whole World” certainly marks Smartz out as one to keep a firm eye on.
