Some songs are weirdly addictive through design, others just seemingly occur naturally. “BTSTU” appears to be in the latter category, but at this stage, who knows? Or more specifically, who really cares? For as soon as those wonderfully layered streams of falsetto from this year old number reach your ear, you’re hooked. The rest of the song snakes between being soothing/threatening, melodic/bass-heavy, with subtle touches galore. But whilst the instant charm of the inimitable “Don’t fuck with me…” hooks you in, Jai Paul has given the whole three and a half minutes an almost timeless, other worldly feel that many could spend a few lifetimes unsuccessfully attempting to recreate. He’s done it on his debut track. Superb.
