A very risky choice of single for Raghav. “Angel Eyes” utilises “Murder She Wrote” by Chaka Demus & The Pliers, and Raghav JUST about pulls it off, once you can get past the potential sacrilege – after all, we are talking about one of the most popular songs of the UK Asian club scene over the last decade. Strangely, the video barely focusses on the model’s eyes at all, and that pretty much sums up this style over substance effort, where melody just relentlessly bangs you over the head.
Then, however, we get to “Teri Baaton” which uses the same beat, but just features Raghav singing in Hindi. The end result is entirely different, as we are gifted with what can only be described as an all-time great. The soul with which he delivers the spell-binding lyrics… That golden voice just lilting on top of such an atypical instrumental… The intro and outro alone send shivers down your spine, yet he still writes a blinding chorus. Where on earth Raghav drew the inspiration from to blend the two together, we’ll never fully realise, but moments like this are what separate the good from the great, and make no mistake, this is a true classic. It’s one of those songs that you just never want to end.
